The jazz performer Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born February 20, 1937, in Ohio, Chillicothe. She was the daughter of iron worker Olden Wilson, and former Lillian Ryan who worked as a domestic servant. Nancy Wilson was only born child at the age of 6. Nancy loved listening to her dad's records and his enthusiasm for music. When she was just four an age, she realized she would be a singer. Her talent developed due to her participation in the choir at church. After high school the singer began appearing frequently in Skyline Melodies. She was 15 when she was crowned the winner of the TV talent show. At the age of 15, Nancy began her professional career at nightclubs. Nancy was a high school graduate at the age of 17 and then attended the Ohio's Central State College, now Central State University for a whole year. Then she dropped out to pursue a career as a professional musician. In 1956, she recorded her first album with Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band. The group toured with Rusty Bryant throughout 1956 until 1958. Nancy began her recording career with Dot Records in 1956, while with the group. Cannonball Adderley urged her to go into New York in order to advance her career. She went to The Big Town, New York in 1959. After just a few days after, her manager heard her singing and hired her. Her debut on the recording stage came in the year 1960, with the single "Girls" after she signed an agreement with Capitol records. Guess Who You Saw Today. Her records were successful and Capitol issued 5 Nancy Wilson albums in two years. Initially focusing on rhythm and blues under Adderley's influence, she began to move away from R&B and embraced music from jazz and torch. Their collaboration in 1962 with Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley helped propel her to fame and her breakthrough song Tell Me the Truth in 1963. This performance helped her land a gig at New York Coconut Grove in 1963. It was the most crowded in America's nightclub.
